“My vision is reflective of fluidity and evolution, in becoming more aware of our natural surroundings, cultural relationships and political issues. Some works are merely the product of a visual I felt compelled to make tangible. Others have a more deep-rooted emotional or underlying purpose. Human nature coerces us to question and revisit what we experience, and it is this awareness of change, modification and continuity that is the overarching subject in my body of work.

Because I find working in a singular medium constricting, primarily I paint ‚ working large- scale, in oils, acrylics and mixed media ‚ but I also dedicate time to photography and sculpture. I find the contrast between two dimensional and three dimensional expression informative, and the contrast between the representational imagery found in my paintings and the reality captured in the clay and photography, fascinating.

I strive to express the strength and simplicity of the natural world ‚ sometimes by literally including aspects of it. A representation of water, in particular, appears in most every piece because I feel that its movement, texture, diversity of state, and ability to magnify and cleanse, make it an essential component when trying to convey undulating emotions and unhindered flow. There is an organic quality that I wish to 'grow' on the canvas and subtly translate to the viewer, while taking care to balance the tone and unique subject matter of each piece. While many paintings seem to force the viewer to react to the visual itself ‚ whether it be by the shear size of the canvas, enlargement of something that's much smaller in reality, or juxtaposition of items that seem contradictory ‚ a couple of my works do incorporate symbolic or representational LGBT themes. Overall, the idea is to allow the viewer to make an assessment for themselves and perhaps recall and examine their reactions, perceptions and interpretations later. In a way, I am trying to redefine what the everyday experience of 'beauty' means to each of us as individuals.”
